UTS Assembly is a live lecture series that invites leading creative minds to reflect on the conditions that shape our everyday lives.
In 2022, join UTS Assembly to hear original and insightful perspectives from curator, Nato Thompson on CITIES; designer, Gaetano Pesche on FUTURES; journalist and documentary film maker, Yaara Bou Melham on SURVEILLANCE, and contemporary artist, Camille Henrot on TECHNOLOGY.
UTS Assembly is free and accessible to all.
Nato Thompson is an American author, curator, and self described “cultural infrastructure builder.” He has worked as Artistic Director at Philadelphia Contemporary, Creative Time, and MASS MoCA.
Thompson organised major Creative Time projects including The Creative Time Summit, Kara Walker’s A Subtlety, Trevor Paglen’s The Last Pictures, and Paul Ramírez Jonas’s Key to the City, among many others. He has also written two books; Culture as Weapon: The Art of Influence in Everyday Life, 2017, and Seeing Power: Art and Activism in the Twenty-first Century, 2015.
Thompson is also the founder of the Alternative Art School and a co-founder of the blockchain platform, Artwrld alongside artist Walid Raad, and designer Josh Goldblum.

Nato Thompson is a curator, self-described “cultural infrastructure builder” and author of Culture as Weapon: The Art of Influence in Everyday Life and Seeing Power: Art and Activism in the Twenty-first Century. As the previous Chief Curator and then Artistic Director at Creative Time in New York, his exhibitions and projects included Paul Chan’s production of “Waiting for Godot” in post-Katrina New Orleans, Kara Walker’s A Subtlety, and the itinerant Creative Time Summits, among many others. He has worked as Artistic Director at Philadelphia Contemporary and MASS MoCA. Nato Thompson is the founder of the Alternative Art School and a co-founder of the blockchain platform, Artwrld alongside artist Walid Raad, and designer Josh Goldblum.
